Our first work trip and first meetings in Rožňava

For a long period of time, our organisation has been looking for ways to make specific help and support available to women experiencing intimate partner violence in Rožňava district. The opportunity has presented itself to us in the framework of this project.

In the first half of 2023 we plan to open a branch of our counselling and intervention centre in Rožňava. As a part of our first work trip to Rožňava, we planned meetings and also wanted to find out about the possibilities of renting suitable premises for the branch.

We met with the mayor of Rožňava, Mr. Domik, to whom we presented our organisation and our intention to open a branch of our counselling and intervention centre in the town. The mayor welcomed the fact that women from Rožňava and other places in the district will have more accessible help and support. At the same time, he was also willing to enable us a tour of one of the premises that the town offers for rent.

At the next meeting we got acquainted with the organisation Vidia Support Centre, n.o., which provides help to victims of crime. We talked about their experience with this work and about possible cooperation in the future. We will definitely go to Rožňava again soon to choose a suitable space for our branch.

The project „We stand with women. We protect and support them!“ benefits from a 486 622 € grant from Norway through the Norway Grants. The project has been co-financed from the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of 72 993 €.

The aim of the project is to increase availability of specialist counselling centres for women – survivors of intimate partner violence and their children in Kosice region by enhancing and increasing the quality of support services in the existing counselling centres in Košice, Michalovce and Spišská Nová Ves and establishing new counselling centres in Rožňava, Gelnica and Sobrance. At the same time, our aim is to make information about the counselling centres and help and support they provide more available to women in Košice region and to improve the response of institutions where women and children seek protection from violence.

The project is implemented by Fenestra in partnership with OZ HANA and OZ Pomoc rodine.
